From recycling to bicycling: igus develops bicycle components for the mobility of tomorrow

igus - After presenting the entirely plastic igus:bike last year, igus is now presenting an additional product line made of high-performance plastics for bicycle manufacturers. Other lines include frames made from a single mold or several components, impellers, and cranksets. The handlebars are about to go into series production and will be used on the Advanced Reco bike.

Cost-effective labeling robot wins the ROIBOT Award 2022 from igus

igus - Worldwide, robots are being used in an increasing number of industries. Simple, cost-effective automation solutions have become necessary for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) as well as large industrial organizations. And every two years, experts from industry and the trade press, together with igus, honor the most cost-effective, creative, and clever solutions with the ROIBOT Award.

Tomorrow's mobility from yesterday's waste

igus - Experts in plastic for motion, igus is making the engineering concept and key components for bicycles made completely of recycled plastic available to all bicycle manufacturers via the new igus:bike platform. The first model should be available by the end of the year.

The ReBeL of automation

igus - With the ReBeL, igus is relying entirely on its motion plastics expertise: plastic makes the robot, whose net weight is 8.2 kilogrammes, the lightest service robot with cobot function in its class. Without exception, igus develops and manufactures all mechanical components that make up the ReBeL. Its payload is 2 kilogrammes and its reach amounts to 664 millimetres. Repeatability is +/-1 millimetre at seven picks per minute.

Cost-effective production of structural elements - in space

igus - A student team supported by igus has developed a 3D printer with drylin linear units that offers cost-effective production of structural elements in space. When booms for solar panels or satellite antennas are transported into space in a launch vehicle, they are exposed to high loads. The AIMIS-FYT team is working on a 3D printing process to simplify the complex transport and speed up production of the elements. The future goal is to manufacture parts directly in space.

New modular gearbox kit from igus for innovative cobot ideas

igus - The potential for service robotics is enormous: in kitchens and bars, in the area of nursing, or in agriculture and logistics, lightweight robots facilitate the automation of monotonous or non-ergonomic tasks. To make the implementation of such new concepts easy and, above all, cost-effective, igus is presenting a new modular gearbox kit for cobots at the Hannover Trade Show.

Unique plastic plain bearing applications wanted

igus - Nominations are open for the manus award from igus, which honors extraordinary and unique use of the company’s high-performance plastics in product design. To mark the tenth anniversary of the award, the jury is offering a sustainability prize. An offshore inspection device, a floating catamaran and a driver assistance system for people with reduced mobility were selected as the award-winning projects in 2019.

7th axis quickly extends range for robots

igus - igus now offers a ready-to-connect 7th axis that will allow a robot to move over a distance several meters and includes a maintenance-free drylin ZLW toothed belt axis with a corresponding adapter plate, switch cabinet, cables, and software integration. For easy integration of the axis and the robot, igus has developed two adapter kits for robolink and UR robots. They enable fast and cost-effective low-cost automation.

e-spool flex: guide cables without slip ring

igus - igus has introduced a cable reel that can guide cables and hoses for the transmission of energy, media, and data without interruption. The e-spool flex increases safety at manual workstations and operating panels. For quick installation of the cable reel, the developers opted for a worm guide. The cable is inserted in a few simple steps, and the e-spool is ready for use.

New cable management kit pairs with any cobot arm

igus - Large and mid-sized corporations alike are becoming more interested in automating tedious and repetitive tasks. We are still quite far, though, from fully automated processes and manufacturing and assembly still require some human interaction. It is estimated that collaborative robots are likely to account for nearly 35% of all industrial robots sold by 2025.
