VDW - The reliability of supply chains has become one of the major topics of discussion since the beginning of the corona pandemic. Some organisations are struggling to procure masks and vaccines, others are having to contend with suppliers with furloughed employees or disruptions in the raw materials market. And major imponderables such as trade conflicts and political influence hover over everything.
VDW - "Falling quantities, a shortage of skilled workers, and now corona – how am I supposed to machine any components effectively?" Answers to this question will be provided at METAV reloaded 2020. Two words which are certain to be heard in March 2021 are: automation and digitalisation. Automation experts from GE Digital, Open Mind and Siemens will be revealing their ideas and solutions for efficient and future-proof factories.
VDW - Automation and handling are increasingly gaining in significance as mega trends in industrial manufacturing. The problem of skilled workers is becoming ever more serious, especially in these difficult times when many companies are under pressure from high costs. At the same time, there are enormously high demands on the quality of products, meaning that businesses are now well advised to consider automation.
METAV - "Following the success of the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf with its sensible and effective hygiene rules – compliments to our fellow organisers there! – we are more than confident that we, too, will be able to make a resounding success of METAV 2020 reloaded," says Dr Wilfried Schäfer, Executive Director of the METAV organiser VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) in Frankfurt am Main.
VDW - The European Machinery Directive is probably the most important set of machine safety regulations; it is currently being reviewed. The EU Commission is planning a new version. However, the messages emerging from the Commission are causing unease among companies and associations alike. The underlying objectives of the review, such as adapting to technical progress, may find broad agreement, yet the devil, as so often, lies in the detail.
VDW - There has been great deal of hype surrounding the benefits of additive manufacturing for several years now. Numerous companies have invested in machines and have been trying out the innovative manufacturing process. Such trials often represent a cost-intensive learning process, but the focus is now increasingly on achieving verifiable successes. Trade visitors can expect to encounter the entire spectrum of 3D printing processes in the Additive Manufacturing Area at METAV from 10 to 13 March 2020.
